Cliptec Media Monitoring.

We realise that the media monitoring business is changing at a rapid pace and only the flexible will survive. At Cliptec we build all our own software so we are able to rapidly respond to Public Relations and Communications professionals requests for faster, better more dynamic service.

We have done some more work on measurement and we have some new products that we can't talk about on line. But in essence we are looking to move to the post portal age. We see portals as being a temporary step based on print media but unnecessary in the digital age.

Speaking of online, since we started this business nearly two years ago more and more news is available on line. Fairfax through their stuff website have bought more of the provincial and community papers to the web. There have also been a few new community websites pop up like the amazing Sun live website for the Bay of Plenty which has really set the standard for a provincial news website.

There seems to be more and more activity in this space. The tipping point for online media is fast approaching with its faster turn around and lower production costs renders  the paralysing expense of print media monitoring unjustifiable.

Short Media Cycle.

I have spoken about this before and have become more convinced that this is the way things are now. Online media has cut the media cycle down from days to hours. Publishers do not have time to get all sides of a story before they go to web, however you will get a chance to reply and probably very quickly. Publishers need to get scoops and they need to get stories out fast. There are not many big stories out there every day in NZ so it is a mad scramble but the wheels turn quickly so you need to be able to respond quickly.

It is this aspect of web media that will kill print and kill print monitoring. If you are responding to crisis you need to respond within the hour to get on top of the story. Waiting till tomorrow is like waiting for yesterdays news.
